City of Walnut Creek Improves Technology for Connected Vehicles

City supports automotive OEM vehicle-to-infrastructure service

July 11, 2018

Walnut Creek, CA. – TTS, with the City of Walnut Creek, CA, is expanding connected vehicle technologies with another public-private partnership.  Through the partnership, the City of Walnut Creek shares real-time data from signalized intersections in exchange for information received from connected vehicle applications, such as arrivals on green or red lights.  The information received from TTS allows the City to examine traffic operations and make improvements throughout the day, not just during the peak travel periods.

TTS launched the V2I service, termed Personal Signal Assistant®, in December 2016 concurrent with the launch of the Audi connect® Traffic Light Information feature. TTS has been actively deploying the service throughout North America and Europe.  In the Bay Area, Walnut Creek expands the coverage already in Palo Alto, and other locations to be released later this year.

Vehicles supporting the technology contribute to the overall traffic flow, by avoiding stops, and improving safety, by decreasing speeds approaching signalized intersections, and have the potential to increase capacity.  Individually, vehicles experience increased fuel and energy efficiency, ranging from 5-20% based on the applications and automation that are implemented in the vehicle.

Traffic Technology Services Inc. (TTS) is a technology company and information provider for connected vehicle applications.  The Personal Signal Assistant® cloud-based solution, patented prediction process, industry standard definitions, and comprehensive deployment allows for immediate vehicle-to-infrastructure integration and applications.  TTS is active in over 60 major metropolitan areas in North America.  TTS is based in Beaverton, Oregon, while TTS Europe, a wholly owned subsidiary, is headquartered in Munich, Germany.  For more information, visit www.traffictechservices.com.
